November saw quite a bit of news about hotels and resorts, though we understand the commercial holiday and its many deals were what kept our attention the most. Margaritaville Resort Lake Tahoe, the brand's first ski destination resort, opened for bookings ahead of its December 14, 2023 grand opening.

Marriott International and MGM Resorts announced they would be postponing a strategic licensing agreement creating the "MGM Collection with Marriott Bonvoy" until next year. While the November 1 announcement came after MGM's cyberattack cost them $100 million, the official announcement did not cite anything specific as the reason for the halt.

Hyatt provided a look into its economic growth with its third quarter results, showcasing a larger net income this quarter than in the third quarter of 2022, with a new record of 123,000 rooms in its development pipeline.

Hilton Cancun Mar Caribe All-Inclusive Resort officially opened as the newest Cancun all-inclusive during the beginning of the month. The resort offers a private beachfront, 540 rooms. The resort is a conversion property, which means it is not a newly built resort.

The Singapore EDITION hotel made its grand debut in the island city at the beginning of November. It's the first of the brand to make it into Southeast Asia and offers 204 rooms along Orchard Road.

The American Hotel & Lodging Association and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce announced they would be suing the National Labor Relations Board over the controversial "joint-employer" regulation, which, according to the AHLA, "will make hotel franchisors jointly liable for workplace matters at franchise locations and force unions on hotel franchisees and their employees."

A strike by the Culinary and Bartenders Unions of Las Vegas was averted ahead of the famous Formula 1 races held on November 16-18 in the entertainment capital. Negotiations were successful on the part of the unions, which bring up the average wage to $35, adds severance pay and added protections from robotics and artificial intelligence.

The Trump International Hotel Waikiki is cutting ties with the controversial name of the former American president who is currently deep in several criminal investigations. It'll be renamed Wakea Waikiki Beach and will be added into Hilton's LXR Hotels & Resorts Collection at the beginning of 2024, ahead of a complete renovation in 2025. The resort opened in 2009.

A new report by the American Hotels & Lodging Association reports a stronger business travel outlook is boosting holiday travel this year in hotels, and many travelers, both leisure and business, plan to stay in hotels during the last few months of the year.

Choice Hotels offered another letter to Wyndham offering a potential merger in late November, but Wyndham rejected it, calling it a "step backwards" from its original offer.
