Use a travel agent

"Use a travel agent because you don't know what you don't know," said Margie Lenau, owner of Wonderland Vacations. "You may think that you want to go to the Galapagos Islands to see turtles, but do you know how to get there? If you don't like cruising over the water, you may not like this trip. Bucket list trips are usually higher costs than the average trip. To get the best value for your dollar, you need someone else who is educated about the destination to help you for the best results."

Do your research

"When planning a major vacation, be sure to work alongside a travel specialist that can help you not only plan out your itinerary and excursions but save money while you're at it," said Anthony Tucker, All Inclusive Outlet. "Look for an agent that specializes in your chosen destination and don't be afraid to ask questions. That's what we're here for."

Ask 'why'?

"Travelers who want to cross a trip off of their bucket list should make sure they are going somewhere they have either never been to before or somewhere they absolutely would like to revisit," said Mark Noennig, executive vice president at The Mark Travel Corporation. "Then, ask themselves "why" they want to go to a specific destination and make sure that need correlates with what they've planned on doing once they get there. That's why it's important to decide on adventures and excursions that fit everybody's personality and interests."

Do for you:

"If you have multiple destinations in mind consider what is good for you now concerning your overall health and fitness level, versus what could wait until later in life," said Erin Logsdon, an affiliate of Travel Experts, Luxury Travel Works. "Remember that it is your vacation. Do what you want; not what you think will impress others. Your stories and photos will be amazing, regardless."

Start at the airport:

"Start your trip at the airport, not at your destination, by flying business or first class and book VIP arrival services where available," said Mary Catherine Sinkule Travel, an affiliate of Travel Experts. "It's the little things that take a trip for ordinary to extraordinary."

Are you sure?

"I make sure the client knows what to expect in a Bucket List location," said Clint Bertucci, Tour Guide, Founder of Travr. "Some clients might just think that it is on their bucket list but have no idea what the country might be like."

Make it happen:

"There's always going to be a reason or reasons not to go, but it's up to you and you only to make the sacrifices it takes to make it happen," said Bertucci.

Budget it:

"Be realistic about your budget, you may need to save more," said Margie Lenau of Wonderland Vacations. "Prioritize the most important tours to do. Think about who you want to share this experience with and include them in the planning. Usually, you will spend more than you normally would on a bucket list trips than on a shorter vacation, so be sure to ensure your choice with a good choice of Travel Insurance."

It's never too early to start planning a bucket list vacation.
