Alaska Airlines has expanded its Latin America service to include daily year-round service from Los Angeles to its newest destination — Guatemala.
In addition, flights from both San Diego and Chicago O’Hare to Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo have been added to increase seasonal leisure routes for winter travel beginning December 2023. The new nonstop service will be offered through April 6, 2024. Chicago will provide a weekly service while San Diego flyers can choose from four peak-day nonstops.
Alaska Airlines offers the most flights to the most destinations across Latin America than any other carrier from its Los Angeles hub that includes up to 18 daily nonstops this winter to 12 cities throughout the region.
The Guatemala City service also adds to Alaska’s international destinations which include flights from LAX and SEA to Belize, and San Jose and Liberia airports in Costa Rica. West Coast gateways this December 2023 will offer air service to Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala and the Bahamas.
“As the fifth largest carrier in the U.S., we’re a growing airline that’s expanding to more international destinations. Guatemala is a dynamic new country for us and our guests – full of outdoor adventures, history and natural beauty. Our new service will allow families, friends and businesses to better connect between the West Coast and Central America,” said Kirsten Amrine, vice president of revenue management and network planning for Alaska Airlines.
Francis Argueta, director general of civil aeronautics of Guatemala added “We’re very excited to welcome Alaska Airlines’ inaugural flight to our country this December. Guatemala has a lot to offer with its gastronomy, its nature and the beautiful corners of the Mayan world, which will all be a treasure trove of experiences for travelers.”
