If you need more proof that airlines are riding high this year, this ought to do it. Alaska Airlines has announced it will be hiring for more than 2,300 new front-line jobs this year, which it will split among its Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air brands.

"This is an exciting time for our airlines - we are growing and that means more new job opportunities in the communities we serve," said Laura Fowler, Managing Director Talent Acquisition & Inclusion. "Our team is on the lookout for people who want to be a part of a great culture and help create an airline people love."

And lest you think all those job openings are for gate agents--oops, we mean passenger service agents--let us just clear that up for you.

In total, Alaska is predicting it will need some 300 new pilots; 900 new flight attendants; more than new 500 customer, ground and passenger service agents; and some 600 new reservations agents, some of which are work-from-home positions.

Thinking about a career change? No problem, Alaska Airlines says that more than 2,000 of the new positions do not require airline experience. Since Alaska will be adding four new daily flights to Mexico City from California cities soon, some Spanish language skills could be helpful.

Alaska Air Group is enjoying a growth spurt of sorts this year. The airline recently acquired San Francisco-based Virgin America, it is expecting new Embraer E175 jets for Horizon this spring and it will also launch new flights Havana, Cuba.

The jobs will include 250 new ones in Seattle, 150 in Boise, Idaho and 100 in Phoenix, Arizona. The rest will be available throughout Alaska's flight network.

And, says the company, just as its front-line staff needs are growing, so too will back-end and corporate jobs. The airline recommends interested parties keep an eye out for new information and technology jobs, revenue management positions, as well as slots in human resources, finance and other corporate departments.

The Alaska Airlines press release also lists a number of reasons why people might want to work for their company including unlimited standby travel and generous bonuses. But the real perk could be the opportunity to work for a company whose motto is "Creating an airline people love."
