West Coast travelers have access to plenty of new flight options for their spring break getaways, as combined carriers Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines plan to operate the largest spring break flight schedule ever.
The two combined carriers will operate more than 12 million seats in March and April. The surge in capacity is in addition to 25 new or recently launched routes across the airlines’ network.
Among the new routes are notable nonstop flights like San Francisco to Līhuʻe, Kauaʻi and Kona, Hawaiʻi Island, as well as Seattle Tokyo Narita and Seoul.
The airlines are also significantly expanding their spring break operations at San Diego International Airport (SAN), with more than 30% more flights and 10 new nonstop routes.
Elsewhere on the West Coast, the combined airline will increase its spring break capacity to California from several key markets. Boise, Idaho, for instance, will see triple the service to Palm Springs, while Santa Rosa, California, will see two new nonstop flights to other California destinations—Ontario and Palm Springs—along with added frequencies to Burbank, San Diego, and Portland, Oregon.
Hawaii is another key market where the carrier is seeing strong spring break demand. Among Alaska and Hawaiian’s top domestic spring break destinations are: Honolulu, Oʻahu; Līhuʻe, Kauaʻi; Kahului, Maui; Kona, Hawaiʻi Island.
As such, the dual carrier’s flight schedules from the Mainland U.S. to Hawaii will also see an expansion, growing by 6% year over year with 31 additional flights between March 14 to 22.
Other domestic markets, like Phoenix and Denver, will see the largest spring flight schedules the carrier has ever flown.
But it’s not just Alaska and Hawaiian that are operating a record number of flights: Airlines across the country are preparing for one of the busiest-ever spring break travel periods in recent memory, with about 2.8 million passengers expected to fly every day during March and April, according to estimates from industry group Airlines for America.
