Travelers in the Midwest are about to get an upgraded space to relax before their flight in one of the region’s largest hubs

American Airlines just announced plans to replace its existing Admirals Club at Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) with an expanded and upgraded lounge location.

The new version of the lounge will also be located in the airport’s Concourse L, but it will measure more than 10,000 square feet and feature different areas with distinct amenities geared toward travelers’ needs that the carrier is calling “neighborhoods.”

The airline didn’t release details about what those “neighborhoods” will offer at ORD. But at other recently opened Admirals Clubs, the lounge “neighborhoods” include specific zones for sitting around a fireplace, food and beverage areas, showers and restrooms, and a kids playroom.

“We’re helping customers at ORD connect to the world with more than 500 flights daily and we want to offer a premium experience from start to finish,” said Heather Garboden, American’s chief customer officer. “The new Admirals Club lounge will offer more seating and upgraded amenities and fully reflect the standards our customers expect when visiting one of our lounges.”

The current Admirals Club in ORD’s Concourse L will remain open to travelers while the new expanded lounge is under construction.

The new Admirals Club is part of a larger strategy at American to offer more premium products to its passengers, including new Flagship business class suites and new and expanded lounges at several airports across the U.S.

Plans to unveil an expanded lounge also come as American has been making substantial investments at its Chicago hub. Since 2025, the airline has added 180 destinations to its Chicago route network. For the 2026 spring break season, American has added 100 new daily flights from Chicago and says it plans to operate more than 500 peak daily departures from ORD.
