Breeze Airways Moves Toward All A220 Fleet

Breeze Airways is aiming to fly an entirely A220-300 fleet by the end of 2024.

The discount airline already has 22 Airbus A220-300 aircraft and hopes to increase that figure to 32 by year’s end. It also has another 80 A220s on firm order.

In a press release on its website, the airline said the A220s offer an elevated experience and touted the sustainability of the planes.

“We are planning for a sustainable future by reducing our eco-footprint through the unique benefits offered by the A220 aircraft,” the press release states.

Some of the more eco-friendly features of the A220, according to the airline, include:

• 25% reduction in CO2 emissions per seat compared to the previous generation of small single-aisle aircraft
• 50% reduction in noise footprint 
• 50% fewer NOx emissions than CAEP/6 standards
  
  

The airline also explained that the A220 is “specially designed for our route sizes with a minimal carbon footprint.” The planes include state-of-the-art aerodynamics, advanced materials, and the latest-generation technologies and engines.

Additional features on the A220 include high-speed Wi-Fi and a first-class experience with seats that are nearly two feet wide and offer three feet of pitch.

Breeze is a low-cost airline that was developed for travel within the United States. However, in December, the airline sought permission from the Federal Aviation Administration to begin flying transatlantic routes. The carrier would like to fly to Europe, including Ireland and the Caribbean.
