Delta Flight Makes Emergency Return After Passenger Disturbance

A Delta Air Lines flight from Houston to Atlanta returned to the gate 17 minutes after takeoff Wednesday morning after the pilot reported an unruly passenger had attempted to enter the cockpit, according to aviation monitoring website AIRLIVE.

The pilot declared an emergency and signaled to air traffic control that a passenger was attempting to access the cockpit. After allegedly assaulting another passenger, the individual was restrained and moved to the back of the plane. 

Delta later said the situation did not involve an attempt to access the flight deck, adding that the customer approached crew members and other passengers.

The Boeing 717, carrying 85 passengers and five crew members, returned to Houston’s Hobby Airport following the emergency. Police were waiting at the gate to take the individual into custody.

After the passenger was removed, the flight resumed and eventually arrived in Atlanta 90 minutes late.
