New details surrounding the survivors of the deadly Air Canada plane crash that occurred when Flight 8646 collided with a firetruck at New York City's LaGuardia Airport are being released, including the name of the flight attendant who was ejected from the plane during the collision and miraculously survived.
According to Quebec's TVA News, the woman is Solange Tremblay, who suffered multiple fractures, including a broken leg, after being ejected over 320 feet from the plane. Tremblay, according to her daughter, Sarah Lépine, had been strapped into her jump seat behind the pilots when the crash occurred.
"It's a complete miracle. At the moment of impact, her seat was ejected more than 100 meters from the plane. They found her and she was still strapped into her seat," Lépine told TVA News. "She had a guardian angel watching over her. It could have been much worse."
Tremblay has been hospitalized and will undergo surgery.
The two pilots, both young men, had been killed on impact; over forty people were injured, and there were no fatalities among those in the firetruck, who'd been on their way to respond to a different plane just before midnight.
The flight, which had come in from Montreal, had 72 passengers and 4 crew members.
LaGuardia immediately issued a ground stop for hours after the initial incident occurred, rerouting incoming flights to area airports.
The FAA and the NTSB are investigating the crash.
"The members of the Port Authority PBA are saddened by the deaths of the two Air Canada Flight 8646 pilots and offer their sincere condolences to their families," the Port Authority Police Benevolent Association said in a statement. "The Port Authority PBA is also thankful and grateful that the Port Authority police officer and sergeant are in stable condition. We hope for their complete recoveries."
