Officials at William P. Hobby Airport in Houston have reopened a security checkpoint after a suspicious device was discovered early Thursday morning.
According to ABC News, Houston police revealed that Transportation Security Administration officers discovered a novelty grenade inside the bag of a 17-year-old Boy Scout during the screening process.
TSA agents called the Houston Police Department who sent officers to the scene and evacuated the area, keeping all passengers and employees around 200 feet from the checkpoint. After a short investigation, it was confirmed that the grenade was hollow.
The investigation began at around 4:30 a.m. local time and passengers were eventually given the all-clear to return to the security checkpoint. Police said the Boy Scout was not detained, but it remains unclear if his parents would face any fines.
Houston Airports System spokesman Bill Begley said several airlines were forced to adjust their schedules to accommodate passengers that were evacuated during the discovery of the suspicious device.
For travelers coming through Houston, it was the second bomb scare at an airport in less than 24 hours. At George Bush Intercontinental Airport, an impatient passenger claimed to have explosives in his bag in the south ticketing area of Terminal D.
