Viking announced on Thursday that the cruise line had
taken delivery of its newest river ships, the Viking Annar and the Viking
Fjolvar.
Built at Meyer's Neptun Werft shipyard in
Rostock-Warnemünde, Germany, the Viking Annar will sail the company's
itineraries on the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers, while the Viking Fjolvar will
sail itineraries on the Seine River.
For guests booking a journey on the Viking Annar, the
ship can host 190 guests in 95 staterooms and features elegant Scandinavian
design and industry-leading innovations. The vessel will sail itineraries that
include Rhine Getaway, Grand European Tour, Passage to Eastern Europe, European
Sojourn and Christmas on the Rhine.
The Viking Fjolvar will host 168 guests in 84
staterooms and features the same design elements as Viking Longships. It is
scheduled to sail round-trip from Paris on Seine River itineraries, including
Paris & the Heart of Normandy and the new Christmastime in Paris &
Normandy.
"We are proud to welcome the Viking Annar and the
Viking Fjolvar to our growing fleet of award-winning river ships," Viking
President and CEO Leah Talactac said. "Exploring by river offers an
unmatched way to discover a destination's history, culture and local life, and
these new vessels allow even more curious travelers to experience Europe in
Viking comfort."
In addition to the two newest vessels, Viking expects
to take delivery of 22 additional river ships by 2028, nine additional ocean
ships by 2031, and two additional expedition ships by 2031.
Once delivered, Viking will boast a fleet of 114 river
ships in 2028 and 26 ocean and expedition ships in 2031.
