JetBlue’s financial results found its cost-cutting measures have provided the airline with a surprise revenue during the second quarter of the year.

The airline reported that it earned a net income of $25 million during the second quarter of the year, and its cost-cutting JetForward plan to once again return the company to profitability will net the company an estimated $800 to $900 million in earnings from 2025 to 2027.

The JetForward plan includes reliable and caring service for customers, growing its prominent East Coast leisure network from New York and New England down to Florida and Latin America, reducing routes that are unprofitable and introducing product and customer value, such as adding a complimentary carry-on for Blue Basic fares

Financially, the airline’s cost-cutting measures will save it approximately $175 million in structural cost savings through 2027. One of its newest measures is deferring about $3 billion in capital expenditures through 2029, including the purchase of new Airbus aircraft.

Shareholders earned $0.07 in earnings per share this past quarter. Capacity fell by 2.7 percent year over year, likely due to cutting routes. Operating expense and revenue were the same amount this quarter, at $2.4 billion.

"We closed the first half of 2024 with meaningful year-over-year improvements in our operation and exceeded our second quarter guidance through strong execution, early evidence the changes we are implementing as part of our refocused strategy are yielding positive benefits," said Joanna Geraghty, JetBlue's chief executive officer. "Today, and as the year progresses, we are excited to share more details about JetForward, our strategic framework to return JetBlue to sustained profitability, and the four priority moves aimed at driving significant value over the coming years.

"These include boosting reliability and doubling down on our commitment to caring service to improve satisfaction and drive cost savings; reinvesting in building the best leisure network on the East Coast, where we are positioned to win; enhancing our existing product offerings and loyalty perks to better deliver the elevated and differentiated experiences our customers want; and keeping our costs low so that we can continue to offer customers exceptional value in the sky as we build a secure financial future for JetBlue."
