Airport food leaves something to be desired.
But not at these places.
Venerable Food & Wine magazine says there are airport restaurants that are pretty darn good, and these are their selections for the best of the best. In something of a taste of the terminals tour, you can get a good feel for local flavors here.
The 2024 Global Tastemakers panel of food and travel experts nominated their favorite airports for dining and drinks.
Topping the list is Singapore’s Changi Airport. That’s probably because the choices are nearly endless; this facility has more than 100 food vendors. It offers everything from ramen, to seafood to sweet treats and so much more.
In addition to its uniqueness with an indoor waterfall feature, the food also helps make Changi Airport one of the best in the world.
Also on the list is Tokyo-Narita International Airport, which offers some of the best sushi available in the entire country of Japan. There are two locations within the airport for Sushi Kyotatsu. It is said that the bluefin tuna is to die for.
Dubai International Airport – As befit its location in the United Arab Emirates, this is an airport filled with luxurious food and the suites at L’Éclair de Génie are a must.
Heathrow in London – And to think, you don’t even have to leave the airport for a traditional British dish like bangers and mash, or fish and chips, or shepherds pie. You also might recognize this guy who has his own restaurant in the airport: Gordon Ramsay Plane Food.
Istanbul Airport Turkey – This is a perfect spot for the intersection of food from the Middle East, Europe and Asia. You can get street food to go like a kebab, or you can sit down to a full-blown dinner of rack of lamb.
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol – In Café Rembrandt, nicknamed "Schiphol's living room," you can grab traditional Dutch snacks or even a Dutch beer as early as 10 a.m. Remember, the rules on drinking alcoholic beverages in Europe are very lax.
John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City – Perfect if you’re in the mood for a classic New York steakhouse experience before you fly.
Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport – This is annually one of the world’s busiest airports, so why wouldn’t it have a copious amount of food choices including Southern hospitality food and hamburgers. Rapper Ludacris also has his own spot here called Chicken + Beer.
San Francisco International Airport – The food choices here are as eclectic as the spectacular part that adorns the walls. You can sit down or you can grab and go, including some of the best peanut butter and jelly sandwiches ever made.
Vancouver International Airport – This is a vibrant, cosmopolitan city and its airport and the airport menu selections reflect that, especially with the fresh seafood. Try Globe@YVR.
Munich International Airport -- Where you can dine at a Michelin-starred restaurant and have a German beer as well. Did someone say wiener schnitzel and a Dinkelacker?
