Travelers in the United States are getting new nonstop access to one of Latin America’s most popular Caribbean destinations this winter.
United Airlines has announced it will launch two new nonstop flights to Cartagena, Colombia, starting in December.
The flights will operate four times per week all year round from United’s hubs at Houston Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD).
When the flights debut on December 17, they will be the only nonstop routes from IAH and IAD to Cartagena’s Rafael Núñez International Airport (CTG) from a U.S. carrier.
"As our third destination in Colombia, complementing our service to Bogota and Medellín, Cartagena gives our customers access to a different side of the country while making it easier for travelers across North America to experience one of the Caribbean's most iconic destinations,” said Patrick Quayle, United’s senior vice president of network planning and global alliances.
The carrier will use a single-aisle Boeing 737 jet to operate the route. On board, passengers can expect Bluetooth-compatible seatback screens, spacious overhead bins with room for every flier’s rollaboard bag, and forthcoming Starlink Wi-Fi.
Cartagena is becoming a popular destination for North American travelers and is known for its stunning beaches, clear turquoise waters, delicious street food, historic neighborhoods, and lively salsa dancing.
"The architectural beauty, vibrant culture and thriving culinary scene are just a few reasons why travel experts say Cartagena should be on people's bucket list this year," said United’s Chief Customer Officer David Kinzelman.
The new routes are still awaiting final government approval and are not yet on sale.
