Beginning in November, Ireland’s iconic Dromoland Castle will be shuttered until June 2027 for the most extensive renovation in its 63 years as a hotel.
One of the main elements of the renovation is a 3,200-square-foot, glass-enclosed atrium set in the castle’s courtyard. The atrium, which will be open year-round, will serve morning coffee, afternoon tea and evening cocktails with live music. It is scheduled to debut in July 2027.
Expanded Accommodations
“Just a five-minute walk from the castle, the newly created Walled Garden Collection will comprise 13 accommodations within the converted former stables, offering a private retreat for families and multigenerational stays,” Dromoland Castle officials said.
The castle’s accommodations will be further boosted by The Heritage collection spanning the floor of a castle wing near the main entrance, which will be equipped with 16 guestrooms and five suites.
In all, Dromoland will offer 121 accommodations when the renovation is complete, “up from 96, including two private Lodges for long-term stays,” officials said.

Honoring Historic Craftsmanship
In keeping with the historic nature of the property, the renovation will use regional materials such as Connemara marble, bespoke metalwork, linen, wool, velvets, and carpet.
“A collaboration with Ulster Carpets, the Northern Irish company commissioned to produce the ceremonial carpet for the Coronation of King Charles III at Westminster Abbey, will be reflected in select public areas,” Dromoland officials said, adding that its venerable art collection, suits of armor, silk claret wallcoverings, and Gothic Revival furniture will be enhanced.
Upgraded Wellness and Dining Options
Additionally, four new wellness rituals will be unveiled, including thermal therapies, bespoke therapist-led rituals, and “state-of-the-art integrations to create a personalized, multi-sensory experience,” Dromoland officials said.
A new executive head chef, Kevin Fleming, will enhance The Earl of Thomand restaurant, reviving tableside dining, with Crêpes Suzette flambé, Irish coffee, Chateaubriand carved to order, and a cheese service.
Dromoland will also raise the bar on its estate experiences, which include falconry, archery, boating and whisky tastings, with experiences that delve deep into Ireland’s history and traditions.
The castle is located on the west coast of Ireland, 15 minutes from Shannon Airport.
