Video Shows Dramatic Near-Miss Between Two Planes at LAX Airport

Dramatic video captured two planes nearly colliding at Los Angeles International Airport last week.

According to the Associated Press, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is now investigating after a Key Lime Air flight carrying the Gonzaga University men's basketball team was ordered to stop before crossing a runway as a Delta Air Lines plane was taking off.

The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. local time on Friday when audio captured an air traffic controller telling the Key Lime Air flight to "Stop, stop, stop."

Fortunately, there were no injuries.

"Air traffic controllers directed Key Lime Air Flight 563 to hold short of crossing a runway at Los Angeles International Airport because a second aircraft was taking off from the runway at the time," the FAA confirmed in a statement. "When the Embraer E135 jet proceeded to cross the hold bars, air traffic controllers told the pilots to stop. The jet never crossed the runway edge line."

Delta said "Delta flight 471 operated as normal, and we are not aware of any communication from the FAA regarding this flight. We are cooperating with aviation officials on their investigation."

The incident comes amid a spate of troubling plane crashes, stowaway incidents and close calls that have called air travel safety into question heading into 2025.
