A woman from Texas is being hailed as a hero after she missed her plane to ensure a man with autism made it safely onto his flight last week.
According to FOX 5 Atlanta, Shaina Murry was looking to catch her flight at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport when she saw a man lying on the floor and called for medical attention. After sensing there was something wrong, Murry called the man's mother who confirmed he had autism.
The man told medics that he felt sick and was concerned about missing his flight. American Airlines personnel and the medical team on the scene said he needed to eat and drink before getting on his flight and questioned whether flying would be a good idea.
Instead of walking away from the situation, Murry decided to miss her own flight to take the young man to lunch with her in order to ensure he was feeling better. Once the meal was complete, Murry took the man to his terminal and helped him board the plane.
"American didn't charge me a dime for the flight change and even called me when he and I were eating lunch together to let me know his gate changed," Murry said on Facebook. "When I dropped him off at his gate for his flight, the American Airlines team took great care of him, checked on him and made sure he boarded safely to go see his Mom for Christmas."
As a result of the incident, Murry claims she will be an American Airlines customer for life.
While we live in a world full of negativity, there are moments when the goodness in people shines through. Both Murry and American Airlines proved they have the proper holiday spirit.
