Codeshares are Gone on Which Transborder Flights?

Air Canada is removing the Air Canada code on some United transborder routes. The changes, effective December 10, 2017, impact some flights to United’s major hubs, including Chicago, Houston and Newark.
"We removed only a small percentage of codeshare flights on certain routes when, after a routine review, we found flights operating at about the same time by both airlines," according to a statement to TravelPulse by an Air Canada representative.
"Like other airlines, we review the operating schedules of our codeshare partners with respect to our own as both are subject to change, and clean up overlapping codeshare flights to avoid duplication. This is a common, routine industry practice, and, in fact, United did the same for their codeshare flights after reviewing our flight schedule on transborder routes earlier this year."
Certain flights on the following routes are impacted:
—YUL/YYZ-EWR
—YYC/YYZ-IAH
—YUL/YYZ-ORD
—YVR-SFO
—YVR-LAX
While the codeshare agreements are being removed from select flights, passengers should not be affected by these changes.
"There is no impact to travel plans for customers, as the only change is to the flight number appearing in the booking," said the representative. "There is nothing special that customers need to do as they always check-in for their flight with the operating carrier as stated on itineraries and boarding passes."
While an earlier version of this story referenced a rebooking process in order to update flight numbers, that process is handled internally, in a routine process, by Air Canada's call centre agents or by the original issuing travel agent who made the booking.
Here's what issuing travel agents should know:
—AC* customers should be rebooked onto the UA operating flight number using the original ticketed booking class (RBD)
- If the original booking class is not available, book the lowest available booking class (RBD) within the same cabin/compartment
- Please ensure the correct ticketing procedures are followed, including adding the ticket endorsement REISSUE DUE SKCH
