There's been much rumor, speculation and innuendo the last week or two that American Airlines, with the one-year anniversary of its merger with US Airways coming up next month, was going to move its headquarters out of its present Fort Worth location.
American CEO Doug Parker confirmed to reporters Thursday that the airline is "mulling" a move to a new facility but that it's not even close to the top of the list of American's priorities over the next year.
But any rumor to another location in the country is unfounded. The carrier might change addresses but it will barely change zip codes - in an agreement with the Texas Attorney General last year, American agreed to stay in the Dallas-Fort Worth area to settle a lawsuit filed by that office to block the merger.
American moved to Dallas-Fort Worth in 1979.
"It's one of the things that we're looking at," Parker told reporters after attending a Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce breakfast on Thursday. "There are a number of options including staying exactly where we are. We have a perfectly acceptable facility today, and (we are) just wondering if there might be a better opportunity. So we're investigating whether that might be the case."
Parker said any discussions are preliminary.
"There is no time limit whatsoever," Parker said. "This is not on the top of the list with all the priorities we have right now."
