Brightline’s expansion into Orlando has been delayed from its September 1 launch date, the commuter rail service announcing the delay during the final stages of certification and crew testing.
According to WESH Orlando, an affiliate of CBS News, Brightline is offering refunds for impacted passengers who have already purchased tickets. Tickets began being sold in May of this year.
"We want to give guests ample time to adjust their travel plans. We will refund their tickets and provide a premium credit 'on us,’” said a spokesperson from Brightline to WESH Orlando. “We hope they will rebook and enjoy the inaugural Brightline experience.”
Brightline is a commuter train service that launched between Fort Lauderdale, Miami and West Palm Beach in 2018. It has since expanded into Boca Raton and Aventura in 2022 and has been working on the expansion into Orlando since 2019. It completed construction in Orlando this June.
There is no date for when the service will launch following the delay.
Once the route officially launches, the company plans to run sixteen daily roundtrip trips between Miami and Orlando. Each trip will stop at all five current Brightline stops and will take a total time of 3.5 hours.
