After one of the busiest weeks of the year, Amtrak has achieved record revenue.
The rail company earned $204.7 million in system-wide adjusted ticket revenue during November, making it the best month in Amtrak history. The success was due in part to Thanksgiving, which featured a record 777,897 passengers taking the train during the holiday week.
In total, Amtrak generated $61 million in gross ticket revenue during Thanksgiving week.
December is another busy month for the rail company. Officials are advising customers to book tickets early in order to avoid sell outs, as Amtrak expects similar passenger numbers during the holiday season.
"More customers are choosing Amtrak as it is simply the smarter way to travel," Amtrak co-CEO Wick Moorman said in a statement. "We look forward to providing the Amtrak experience to more customers over the December holidays."
With seven-day and 14-day advance purchase saver fares still available, customers are eligible to save up to 25 percent on tickets. Amtrak also offers free Wi-Fi on most trains, ample legroom and no middle seat, while avoiding highway congestion, bad weather and crowded airports.
Recently, Amtrak invested nearly $17 million into refurbishing several train cars across the United States. The improvements include new seat cushions, carpeting, curtains and refreshed restrooms to provide a more modern, comfortable experience onboard.
