Editor's note: As it happens, the following turned out to be an April Fools' Day joke. We obviously fell for it, partially because we received this information on March 30, and partially because this would actually be a great idea.
As summer approaches, Alamo Rent A Car is giving travelers a taste of the past by offering fully-restored station wagons known as woodies, just like the cars that frequented the roads throughout the 1960s, '70s and '80s.
The retro station wagons will feature wood paneling on the side of each vehicle and will be fully restored to ensure customer safety. The cars will also include an AM radio and manual roll-up windows to give customers the nostalgia feel they desire.
Starting on June 15, Alamo will begin offering a select number of classic station wagons for a test in ten cities in the United States, including Atlanta, Baltimore, Cleveland, Dallas, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Orlando, Memphis, San Diego and St. Louis.

Alamo vice president Rob Connors released a statement about the station wagons:
"At Alamo, we know vacations are all about making memories. What we've learned is that many of our customers actually want to look back - both literally and figuratively - and relive their childhood vacation memories with their own kids. With our new selection of 'woodies,' Alamo customers can enjoy nostalgic features like rear-facing seats, white-wall tires and swing-down tailgates to help bring back those favorite family vacation memories from their youth."
For customers looking to find out how much one of these retro rides will cost, Alamo revealed prices will start at $29.99 per day, with air conditioning available at $3 more per day. In addition, road atlases will be available upon request.
