Ride-hailing giant Uber's board of directors voted to hire Expedia chief executive officer Dara Khosrowshahi as the company's top executive during a series of meetings Sunday.
According to The Associated Press, Khosrowshahi has served as CEO of Expedia since August 2015 and he replaces Travis Kalanick as Uber CEO. Khosrowshahi was hired after another top candidate, General Electric chairman Jeffery Immelt, withdrew from consideration.
Uber officials will look to Khosrowshahi to not only help the company stop losing millions of dollars every quarter, but also help change the culture of a business that has faced allegations of sexual harassment and corporate espionage.
Another problem facing Uber has been the dissatisfaction of its drivers, but the previous management group has already started to ease that tension by allowing riders to tip drivers through the company's mobile app.

Before the hire, Uber was being run by a 14-person group of managers. The company's board of directors also faces hurdles, as infighting has become an issue and several factions on the board are suing each other.
Khosrowshahi has been a member of Expedia's board of directors since it separated from IAC/InterActiveCorp. two years ago. In addition, Khosrowshahi also serves on the board of directors for both Fanatics Inc. and The New York Times Co.
