Six Flags Magic Mountain in Southern California has
announced plans to open a new roller coaster category in 2027, dubbed Thrill
Glider.
The new roller coaster is being developed exclusively for
the Valencia, California, theme park, and will combine flying, motorbike, and
suspended coaster technologies.
Developed by manufacturer Vekoma, Thrill Glider will feature
riders aboard hovercycle-style vehicles in a face-forward, prone position
beneath the track. The terrain-following coaster will cover nearly 3.5 acres
and include 20 track elements during its 80-second ride.
The attraction will launch riders to speeds of up to 50 miles
per hour, and will feature 12 airtime moments and five inversions, including a
wing-over, zero-G roll, overbanked stall turn, barrel roll, and upward barrel
roll.
Six Flags says Thrill Glider will establish several world
records when it opens, including the world's first Thrillglider, longest at
3,380 feet, fastest at 50 miles per hour, tallest at 107 feet, and the
Thrillglider with the most inversions.
The attraction will feature a futuristic storyline centered
on QuantumPulse Propulsion Systems and a fictional energy source called PSR
B417. The queue will include displays, holographic presentations, and other
themed elements before riders board the hovercycles.
Thrill Glider is already under construction at the former
Golden Bear Theatre site, between Full Throttle and LEX LUTHOR: Drop of Doom.
The ride will have a minimum height requirement of 48 inches, with additional
opening details expected to be announced later.
