Adventure Canada

Adventure Canada is partnering with the Sedna Epic Expedition-an international team of female ocean explorers, scientists, artists, educators and scuba diving professionals-to set out on a snorkel and dive voyage to Nunavut and western Greenland. The latter group scouts, documents, and records disappearing sea ice in the Arctic, hopping aboard the Ocean Endeavour on August 6-17, 2018 for the Arctic Safari itinerary.

Sedna will engage with both Adventure Canada guests and Inuit communities as the team visits Qausuittuq (Resolute) and Mittimatalik (Pond Inlet). There they will feature marine life in mobile aquariums and host robot-building workshops and snorkel safaris.

Interactions with passengers will further include citizen science ocean program participation in a marine mammal and seabird survey. The women will also give lectures on topics including climate change and maritime archaeology, as well as underwater photography and videography.

Besides the opportunity to dive and snorkel, highlights along the route encompass seeing belugas and narwhals in Lancaster Sound, a Tununiq Arsarniit Theatre Group of Mittimatalik performance, polar bear-seeking zodiac cruises, going to the Franklin Expedition grave sites at Beechey Island, crossing the Arctic Circle twice and watching for whales, birds and walrus in their feeding grounds.

AdventureSmith Explorations

AdventureSmith Explorations' list of cruise itineraries for 2018 showcases polar bears and Northern Lights in the Arctic.

The 15-day Arctic for Explorers journey takes up to 114 guests on the Sea Spirit to the world's northernmost high Arctic archipelago. Polar bears abound only 600 miles from the North Pole at the Russian Arctic National Park under 24-hour daylight. Five departures begin in Longyearbyen, Svalbard, and there are shorter versions as well.

As for celestial illumination, the 10-day Arctic Express: Greenland's Northern Lights itinerary heads from Reykjavik, Iceland on the 78-guest Ocean Nova to also see wildlife such as musk ox. Four dates are available in September.

Particularly unique will be Photography Series and Polar Bears International Series special interest voyages. The former will feature BBC and National Geographic Traveler photographers Cindy Miller Hopkins and Sue Flood presenting workshops in the North Pole. The latter highlights experts and scientists from Polar Bears International-an organization committed to ending environmental threats to polar bears.

The special sailings can be found here:

-Photography Series: North Pole - June 23 - July 6, 2019

-Introduction to Spitsbergen: Fjords, Glaciers and Wildlife of Svalbard - Jun 9 - 17, 2019

-North Pole: The Ultimate Arctic Adventure - Jun 12 - 25, 2019

-Northwest Passage: Epic High Arctic - Sep 10 - 26, 2019

What's more, an early booking bonus applies up to 30 percent savings to select Arctic 2019 cruises.
