Carnival Cruise Line has unveiled an updated LED “Dreamscape” canvas aboard the upcoming Carnival Horizon.
As an evolution from sister-ship Carnival Vista, the atrium sculpture will display the artwork of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital patients.
“As the hospital’s Official Celebration Partner, we couldn’t be happier to showcase these amazing creations designed by the talented St. Jude patients on our newest ship,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, in a press release.
“We are always looking to bring to life our partnerships in a way that also gives back. We do that on each cruise with Groove for St. Jude and we did it on Carnival Vista with Brownie Buoy, a specially designed flavor with proceeds benefiting the hospital. This is just another way to recognize the work St. Jude’s does for the families and patients they serve.”
Stretching three decks in height, the funnel-shaped conical screen will dazzle guests with 33 designs when it debuts. The centerpiece technology is developed by Techno Media and is comprised of 24 feet of over 2,000 flexible LED tiles. The rotating imagery is specifically programmed according to the time of day, port or occasion.
The St. Jude artists were asked to convey their personalities through bright bold colors and, befitting the “Fun Ship” brand, fun pieces. The originals will complement over 100 other graphics on rotation during the day and night.
As the designs showcased on the Vista are more generic, this will add more heart to the very heart of the Horizon.
“Featuring the inspirational artwork of St. Jude patients in the Carnival Horizon atrium is an extraordinary example of how Carnival Cruise Line continues to find creative ways to raise awareness of our mission to find cures and save the lives of children,” said Richard Shadyac Jr., President and CEO of ALSAC, the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in the release.
“Carnival has been a dedicated and deeply engaged partner of St. Jude for the past seven years – providing exciting and memorable experiences for patients and raising significant funds critical to advance the research and treatment of childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. We are truly grateful for their longstanding support.”
Since becoming a collaborator, Carnival has raised over $13 million for St. Jude via onboard and shoreside activities.
Applying the artwork of the hospital’s patients to the atrium display is similar to what other lines have done but on a grander scale. Viking Ocean Cruises’ ships hang Viking Foundation students’ work in its guest cabins, and other brands have been known to feature Make-A-Wish Foundation child art as well.
It’s great to see even more lines participate.

The 133,500-ton Carnival Horizon will launch in Europe during spring 2018 with a number of Vista favorite features, notably the SkyRide and IMAX Theatre, but it will also newly introduce a Dr. Seuss-themed water park.
The ship will first embark on its 13-day Mediterranean maiden voyage on April 2, 2018, from Barcelona before another three departures from the Spanish port. It will then cross the Atlantic with a 14-day cruise to New York on May 9, 2018.
After a summer of four-day Bermuda and eight-day Caribbean sailings from New York, the Horizon will settle in at its year-round homeport of Miami, Florida. From there, it will regularly embark on six- and eight-day Caribbean voyages starting on September 22, 2018, following a special two-day sailing to Nassau on September 20.
