People love to laugh, and while cruise ship entertainment still skews more towards universally appealing production shows, a number of comedy club options exist at sea to tickle the funny bone as well.
Here are six standouts to consider on your next vacation.
Carnival Cruise Line ~ The Punchliner Comedy Club
No other cruise line is as dedicated to laughs onboard more than Carnival Cruise Line if only because The Punchliner Comedy Club is available fleet-wide. Even though the partnership with George Lopez as its presenter recently lapsed, the lineup here is still one of the best and draws standing-room-only crowds to its mix of adult and family-friendly shows. Get in line early for these.
Celebrity Cruises ~ Sin City Comedy
Uniquely combining tasteful burlesque performances and stand-up sets is the Sin City Comedy (pictured above) show on select Celebrity Cruises ships. The adults-only offering is in collaboration with Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas and literally alternates between hilarious comedy and sexy stripteases (never fully nude). It's a bit risqué for a premium line like Celebrity, but the show is very entertaining nonetheless.

Disney Cruise Line ~ Family-Friendly Comedy
Comedians on Disney Cruise Line are always clean cut and are often physical jokesters that families can appreciate together in the Walt Disney Theater. Think vaudevillian ventriloquist shows with volunteers from the audience. Comedians also occasionally feature in the adults-only section of the ships but even then don't push the envelope too far.
Norwegian Cruise Line ~ Headliners Comedy Club
Norwegian Cruise Line's newest ships and a couple of others either showcase The Second City or Levity Entertainment Group performers onboard with an emphasis on improvisational comedy similar to "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" Suggestions are taken from the audience, and hilarity ensues on stage or in the supper club for a dinner show, which are particularly enjoyable and well worth the surcharge.

Princess Cruises ~ Lounge Comedy
Over the years, Princess Cruises has been known to feature great comics in their vaudeville show venues like the Explorers Lounge. While there is no specific claim to fame, per se, for its lineup of chosen artists, the line has always presented consistently talented comedians across the board.
Royal Caribbean International ~ Comedy Live and The Attic
Only Royal Caribbean International's Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas feature the dedicated Comedy Live showroom, and the newest Harmony of the Seas opted to create a multi-purpose entertainment venue in the form of The Attic instead. Even outside these specific venues, however, Royal Caribbean has consistently presented an excellent array of comedians like Glenn Hirsch, who to this day still makes me laugh discussing being mistaken as Gleeb Hush, his Twitter handle incidentally enough.
