It looks like the Costa Concordia wreck will be moved to and dismantled in Genoa, Italy, ending speculation about where the hull would end up and settling the competition among ports wanting the project, according to news reports from Italy.

Genoa is about 170 miles from Giglio Island, where the ship capsized after striking underwater rocks on Jan. 13, 2012, killing 32 people.

The hull is expected to be refloated on or about July 19, as reported in Travel Pulse on May 27. Most of the reports from Italy say the ship will be towed away, although Costa Cruises has contracted with a mammoth semi-submersible ship that could lift and transport the hull if towing is not feasible.

Most news report cite a story in business newspaper Il Sole 24. An English-language newspaper in Italy, The Local, confirmed that the ship would be scrapped in an Italian port, quoting Transport Minister Maurizio Lupi, who said a final decision has not been made yet. The Local also said that, according to Il Sole 24 Ore, Costa has chosen oil service company Saipem and Genoa-based companies Mariotti and San Giorgio to oversee the dismantling.
