Disney Cruise Line is expected to expand its presence in Galveston, Texas, starting in 2027, according to Rodger Rees, port director and chief executive officer of Galveston Wharves.
Rees spoke of the company’s plans to grow its operations at the port during a recent meeting of the Galveston City Council and the Wharves Board, reports the Houston Chronicle.
“The cruise business, as I mentioned, they're expanding exponentially down here in (what) we call the Caribbean, the Western Caribbean,” Rees said at the meeting, according to the Houston Chronicle. “They're putting a lot of money into that. Because of that, Disney is expanding to full-time here in Galveston starting in ‘27”
Disney has sailed seasonally from Galveston for more than a decade. In the near term, the cruise line has departures from Galveston between November 2025 and April 2026.
Meanwhile, the Port of Galveston is slated to open a fourth cruise terminal this fall. The $156 million project is slated for completion in November, as MSC Cruises’ MSC Seascape departs for its first sailing from Galveston.
The new terminal will also house Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings ships.
