Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings is teaming up with the Alaska Department of Fish & Game to offer a new public art contest.
Called “Keep Bears Wild: Juneau Call for Artists,” the program is meant to celebrate Southeast Alaska’s wildlife while promoting community stewardship.
The winning design will be wrapped around a large, newly constructed, bear-resistant garbage enclosure in the Warners Wharf area of downtown Juneau.
Additional artwork will be transformed into mini-murals displayed on newly installed bear-resistant trash cans throughout the downtown corridor. The goal is to draw attention to these trash containers in a conservation-minded way.
The selected artist will also receive a $7,000 cash award, plus $3,000 donated to a local charity of their choice.
A selection panel will review all eligible submissions and narrow them down to three finalists. From there, the Alaskan community will select the winner via social media voting.
Interested participants should submit an original artwork honoring Alaska’s wild bears and habitat via a high-resolution digital file (minimum 300 DPI). The artwork should be formatted to fit the provided bin-wrap dimensions, and artists should also provide a short artist statement of up to 250 words.
All artists who are legal U.S. residents, age 18 or older, are eligible to participate. The deadline for submissions is February 13.
