Norwegian Cruise Line is launching a new in-room breakfast experience using reusable serveware made of 50 percent recycled materials.
The cruise line is rolling out the new offering aboard Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva, with plans to expand to the entire 19-ship fleet by the end of the year.
The new offering is the result of a partnership with Drinique, a sustainable serveware manufacturer based in Phoenix. Guests will now be able to enjoy breakfast in their staterooms from bento box-style containers, without the weight and bulk of porcelain plates. The new serveware also eliminates the need for plastic cling wrap.
The serveware is made from Eastman Tritan Renew, a type of plastic that helps keep hard-to-recycle waste out of landfills.
Norwegian eliminated single-use plastic straws in 2018 and single-use plastic water bottles in 2020. Since then, those efforts have eliminated more than 77 million plastic straws and more than 27 million single-use plastic water bottles.
“As part of our commitment to reduce the use of single plastic on board, we continuously search for opportunities to implement new environmentally friendly practices, while keeping our mission of delivering more experiences so our guests can vacation better with us top of mind,” says Mark Kansley, senior vice president of hotel operations for Norwegian Cruise Line.
“We’re excited to continue to work with Drinique to introduce these new reusable bento boxes across our fleet and continue doing our part to protect and preserve the environment.”
