French cruise line PONANT has taken delivery of Le Lapérouse, the first of six in its EXPLORERS-class series.
The other five vessels are currently under construction.
The ships feature 92 staterooms and suites, all with private terrace or balcony. All six vessels will feature an innovative underwater space, called "Blue Eye." The lounge provides a multi-sensorial experience via two portholes in the shape of a cetaceous eye looking out on to the seabed. Enhancing the atmosphere are underwater lighting, special sofas, and hydrophones built into the keel to transmit the sounds of the deep.
Le Lapérouse left the shipyard in Ålesund, Norway, on June 16 and will reach Reykjavik, Iceland today for the start of her maiden cruise. The inauguration for Le Lapérouse takes place July 10 in Reykjavik.

The only French-owned cruise line, PONANT was launched in 1988 by Jean Emmanuel Sauvée and a dozen officers from the French Merchant Navy.
