Royal Caribbean Cancels Some Cruise Stops in Mexico

Adhering to the old practice of being better safe than sorry, a major cruise line has canceled stops at several ports in Mexico that are considered violent.

Royal Caribbean made the move this past weekend after the United States Department of State declared a ‘no travel’ advisory.

The warning was for Manzanillo on Colima’s Pacific Coast due to crime and kidnapping. State-specific advice for Colima says: “Violent crime and gang activity are widespread. Most homicides are targeted assassinations against members of criminal organizations. Shooting incidents between criminal groups have injured or killed bystanders.”

It is not known when or if the cruise line will return to the area.

Carnival’s Princess Cruises still features the city on itineraries departing in February and September 2025.
 
The Royal Caribbean website says: “Manzanillo might not be the first place on Mexico’s Pacific Coast you think to visit, but its golden beaches, lively fishing harbor and emerald rainforest will leave memories that will last a lifetime.”

Overall, it’s been a year full of risks for travelers.
