Silversea's Silver Spirit has left the Fincantieri shipyard in Palermo, Italy some 49 feet longer than when she arrived.
The newly-enhanced ship underwent a complex lengthening and refurbishment project.
During the nearly two-month dry dock, Silver Spirit's hull was cut in half. She was lengthened with the insertion of a pre-built section and renovated extensively.
TravelPulse was among invited guests who witnessed the actual hull cutting and placement of the midsection at the shipyard.
The work on Silver Spirit involved approximately 1,000 shipyard workers and 450,000 man hours. The goal of the project was to bring Silver Spirit in line with the design and amenities of Silversea's flagship, Silver Muse.
Enhancements include new decor in public areas and suites. The pool deck has been enlarged, and dining options increased. New dining venues include Spaccanapoli, Silver Note, Atlantide, and Indochine. The signature La Terrazza venue has also been renovated. Additional new spaces include the Arts Café, Tor's Observation Library, the Zagara Spa, the Panorama Lounge, and the Dolce Vita lounge.
Silver Spirit departed on her post-lengthening inaugural voyage May 6 from Civitavecchia, Rome. The voyage to Barcelona marks the first in a series of varied itineraries for the ship. In September, she will cross to North America, remaining there until November. Thereafter, she'll sail in the Caribbean.
"I appreciate the complexity of this feat of engineering," said Manfredi Lefebvre d'Ovidio, Silversea's chairman. "As such, I am extremely proud of the amazing job my team and Fincantieri have done. Our beloved Silver Spirit resumes service in a condition that is even more beautiful than before."
