U by Uniworld announced that it will move The B to Central Europe in 2020 and cease operation on the Seine River for 2019. The A will continue with its 2019 season in Central Europe and in 2020.
The new cruise line, built with an eye to a new generation of adult travelers, is focused on meeting increasing demand in the region where it’s sister ship, The A, also operates.
“As we look forward, the demand is, overwhelmingly, pointing towards Central Europe, where guests can experience a new city—and sometimes a different country—each day, which simply isn’t feasible on the Seine," said Ellen Bettridge, president and CEO of U.
In 2020, The B will sail from Brussels to Amsterdam and Amsterdam to Frankfurt. The A will sail from Nuremberg to Vienna and Vienna to Belgrade. There will be additional details announced for the new 2020 itineraries in the coming weeks.
“Being the first means that we’re not only inventing an entirely new sector of the industry, but we’re quite literally in ‘unchartered waters.’ As a brand, U will always stay true to its ethos as a sexy, fun, never-before-seen cruise experience, but we also want to remain open to consumer trends and feedback. That is how brands move from concepts to success stories,” Bettridge noted.
U sets itself apart with singular inclusions such as mixology classes, silent discos, paint & wine activities, drum circles and sunrise rooftop yoga. Guests also enjoy rooftop BBQs, karaoke nights, giant board games, themed parties and more while onboard.
“Our first year was met with unprecedented buzz, media accolades and consumer engagement and we’re looking forward to continuing the momentum as we welcome The B to Central Europe for her second season,” said Bettridge.
While the buzz-worthy cruise line has attracted media attention, it’s struggled to attract a customer base. Originally, the line was only for millennials but has since moved off from that branding decision and opened itself up to all ages.
The B was set to sail the new eight-day Northern France at a Glance itinerary as well as to Normandy’s beaches to celebrate the 75th anniversary of D-Day.
