The largest subtropical wilderness
in the United States, the Everglades are located on 1.5 million acres of wetlands
housing old grown cypress trees, ghost orchids, alligators and Florida
panthers. There’s nothing like it in the world. One of the secret gems of Florida towns, Tarpon Springs has a strong Greek culture and great food due to the abundance of
Greek immigrants attracted to the area by the sponge industry in 1890.
Florida has natural springs and then
there’s Devil’s Den. The Central Florida natural phenomenon was formed when a subterranean river collapsed and exposed the water to
an open surface (similar to Mexico’s cenotes). Though privately owned and
operated as a scuba diving training facility, guests can visit and
take advantage of the year-round 72-degree temperatures. On cold mornings, the steam, appearing like smoke, rises from the cave’s
chimney- hence the name given by early settlers.
As touristy as Florida can be, there are
sleepy, magical small towns that draw us to the past. Mount Dora, 35 minutes
northwest of Orlando is filled with historic buildings,
street-lined palm trees, boutique and antique shops, a crown jewel of quaint
towns that's like walking through the pages of history.
Everyone loves a good
pirate story and the St. Augustine's Pirate & Treasure Museum features the most authentic collection
