Major summer road works projects could affect your road trip if you are hitting the highways this summer. Travelers may want to plan extra time if they are driving through areas that are undergoing major construction projects.
Roads to theme parks in Florida are one of the areas that are consequentially going to experience some major delays.
According to Rand McNally, one of the most significant projects will be the continued rebuilding of 21 miles of Interstate 4 in central Florida. Disney World, Sea World Orlando and Universal Orlando are all located directly off of the 132-mile highway.
Rand McNally regularly tracks ongoing road construction projects and incorporates the data into its RoadWork updates, available through its consumer electronics products. Four other major metropolitan areas are in the grips of major road works projects.
Traveling through Philadelphia may require some extra time, as construction will be continuing on the city's rebuilding of the I-295, I-76 and Route 42 interchange in Camden County.

In Dallas, road trippers may want to plan ahead for road construction involving the 35Express project that will rebuild the 30-mile corridor from Dallas to Denton, Texas.
Travelers on the I-90 in Chicago should watch out for construction beginning this summer - a widening of the eastern segment of the interstate, running from Chicago to Elgin.
Los Angeles, which is perpetually bogged down by heavy traffic, will be stacking up cars on the I-5 (as usual) between the 605 freeway and the Orange County line. The ongoing capacity-widening project will be creating traffic jams all summer long.
