Livability recently ranked the top 10 healthiest U.S. cities based on a combination of health care access and in efforts to promote healthy lifestyles. Diving into the latest County Healthcare Rankings and spending data from Esri, Livability took into account a variety of factors before settling on a top 10.
Without further ado, here's the 2015 edition of America's healthiest destinations:
10. Yonkers, New York
9. Fort Collins, Colorado
8. Honolulu, Hawaii
7. Santa Ana, California
6. Arlington, Virginia
5. Bridgeport, Connecticut
4. Miami, Florida
3. Madison, Wisconsin
2. Cambridge, Massachusetts
1. Minneapolis, Minnesota
Given the abundance of counties in Colorado that ranked toward the top of this year's county health rankings, Fort Collins' standing isn't all that surprising. The city is an excellent representative of the state, though, as it boasts a variety of outdoor activities.
Moving down the list, with an "Aloha Spirit" law in place, it's no wonder travelers visit Honolulu year after year in search of happiness.
And while fourth-place Miami is also known for its sunshine and beautiful beaches, the top finishers are surprisingly perceived cold-weather cities.
No, Madison, Cambridge and Minneapolis can't compete with Honolulu, Santa Ana and Miami on a year-round basis when it comes to weather. However, the cities are each extremely walkable compared to others, and the healthiest, Minneapolis, is renowned for its extensive park system.
Although you may not want to stay forever, perhaps a trip to one of the aforementioned cities will be just what the doctor ordered this year.
