No proper visit to Baja California Sur is complete without a visit to the capital city of La Paz.

Beloved by divers, campers and extreme sports enthusiasts alike, La Paz is full of exciting experiences that include whale watching, beautiful beaches, family-friendly attractions and vibrant nightlife, among other things.

Travelers who are passionate about wildlife are all but certain to fall in love with La Paz as whale sharks flock here every year between October and April. What's more, nearby Espiritu Santo Island boasts as many as 20 awesome diving spots and one of the largest sea lion colonies in all of Mexico. The Natural Protected Area is also home to a wide variety of fish, mammals and endemic flora and fauna.

La Paz's famous beachfront promenade, the Malecon is also a must-visit. The three-mile stretch features enticing shops, eye-catching sculptures and sensational spots to watch an unforgettable sunset.

The Malecon is also within close proximity to some of La Paz's top accommodations, including the CostaBaja Resort & Spa and Hotel Catedral.

Visitors to La Paz will also discover magical towns nearby, including Todos Santos. Located roughly 50 miles from the capital, this town is known for its easygoing pace, inviting boutique hotels, exceptional restaurants and art galleries as well as unrivaled Mexican charm.

If you're looking for something slightly closer, consider El Triunfo or La Ventana, both of which are approximately 30 miles outside of La Paz. The former was once a small mining town that's now home to historic chimneys once used to process silver and gold while the other is a quaint beach town ideal for kitesurfing, fishing or just relaxing. If it's the latter you seek, book a stay at the boutique Casa Tara Hotel & Wellness Retreat and treat yourself to stellar cuisine and rejuvenating spa treatments.

Meanwhile, visitors to El Triunfo mustn't skip town before checking out the music museum showcasing centuries-old instruments, pictures and pieces. Foodie or not, visitors should also grab breakfast at Cafe El Triunfo before stopping at El Minero for a memorable lunch.

Regardless of your passion, La Paz and its surrounding attractions offer something to suit every taste.
