The
newest tourist attraction in Las Vegas is coming back.
The Formula 1 Grand Prix race, which made its debut last November, responded to criticism of high prices by lowering the prices of the tickets.
The
event will again be held in November.
Tickets are on sale now and cheaper than last year, when many felt the pricing structure was exorbitant. Whether the price drop will satisfy fans remains to be seen.
For instance, last year, the most inexpensive three-day grandstand ticket was $2,000. It is on sale for $1,500 this year. There is also a new general admission ticket price as well.
There are other criticisms from the debut last year that will need to be addressed, including from local leaders who felt that some businesses were closed off because of the course structure, potholes on the roads around Las Vegas that limited practice, and the late start time to accommodate European audiences.
Ticket Prices are the Main Concern
But
the cost of the tickets seems to be the main concern. Many people felt
outpriced for the event when it came to Sin City last year, while others believe
the ticket should be more in line with other high-profile sporting events.
But
the prices for the Super Bowl last month that was held in Las Vegas for the
first time were reportedly the highest ever for the National Football League’s
premiere game.
Formula
1 officials say that there is a ticket available for the Thursday night
practice run prior to the Saturday race for $150. F1
is also offering a $225 ticket in the same zone for Friday night, November 22, to
watch the third practice and qualifiers, and F1 is offering a $350 ticket in
the same zone for Saturday night, November 23, for the race itself.
"We
wanted to make sure that more people had the opportunity to get in. The (general
admission) tickets last year sold out in a minute pretty much, so we more than
tripled the number that will be available this year," said F1 Las Vegas
Grand Prix Chief Operating Officer Betsy Fretwell.
