With Halloween just around the corner, the historic Stanley Hotel - known as the inspiration for Stephen King's book 'The Shining'- has released plans for a film center and museum dedicated to the horror genre.

Dubbed the Stanley Film Center, it will be the world's first horror themed museum, film archive and film production studio, according to hotel officials. The facility has also applied for an $11.5 million credit through the State of Colorado's Regional Tourism Act.

When completed, the $24 million, 43,000-square-foot center will operate as a non-profit, public-private partnership, and is expected to host hundreds of thousands of film fans, industry leaders, aspiring artists and students from the around the world.

Designed by MOA Architecture, indoor and outdoor entertainment venues are planned. The construction will include a 500-seat auditorium, a 30,000-square-foot interactive museum, a discovery center, a 3,000-square-foot soundstage, classrooms and cutting-edge post-production and editing suites.

To instantly validate the Stanley Film Center, the Founding Board already boasts names like Elijah Wood, Simon Pegg, George A. Romero, Josh Waller and Daniel Noah.

The Denver Business Journal shared images of the proposed plan on Twitter:

When asked about the new film center project at the Stanley Hotel, Elijah Wood said in a statement, "I would love to have a home for which we could constantly come year-round and celebrate with other fans from around the world. There's really no better place for there to be a permanent home for the celebration of horror as an art form than the Stanley Hotel. It was practically built for it."

The Stanley Film Center will also have an educational partnership with the Colorado Film School, which will help create apprenticeship and artist-in-residence programs, as well as get students involved in the operation, curation and creative elements of the center.

Stanley Film Center creative director Alexandre Philippe released a statement, saying, "We're pushing on an open door. Film festivals, filmmaker and institutions from around the world are lining up to collaborate and partner with the Stanley Film Center. Our fans should expect more big announcements on the Stanley Film Center to come very soon."
