Conan O'Brien used the President's Day weekend to make a bit of history, filming an upcoming show of Conan in Cuba.
Entertainment Weekly reports the late-night television host is the first to jump at the chance to record an episode in the country that was previously isolated from American tourists.
In fact, the report reminds that O'Brien will be the first television host to record in the nation since 1959 when Jack Paar interviewed Fidel Castro at the Havana Hilton.
As the report states, O'Brien used his day off wisely, filming the historic show over the holiday weekend and generally infusing your own Monday Netflix binge-watching session with a great deal more guilt.
As EW states, the show will air on March 4 and offer audiences, "a rare glimpse into the daily life of a country not often seen by American viewers."
In January, TravelPulse's David Cogswell offered thoughts on the easing of American travel regulations to Cuba, offering thoughts on the enormity of the news.
Cogswell stated, "It's also going to be a huge event from a cultural point of view that these two neighboring countries, estranged for half a century, are going to finally be able to know each other again."
Now we pondered hearing from friends who might visit the country or seeing the nation with our own eyes. However, one thing we rarely consider is how Cuba will infuse its identity into American pop culture.
What will start with O'Brien and continue well after that is a rejuvenated sense of a nation that was for decades thought of as some far-off place that travelers considered a destination pipe dream and others just rarely considered.
Thankfully, that is all about to change as we slowly and assuredly get a clearer picture of this beautiful country.
