The twerking craze will end at the Dominican Republic's shores.
The Associated Press reports fans who bought tickets to a Miley Cyrus concert in the country, hoping to see tongue wagging and general gyrating, are out of luck, because government officials have shut down the party like parents coming home early from a weekend trip.
The report reads, "The Dominican Republic government commission that oversees public performances is banning a Sept. 13 concert by Miley Cyrus on morality grounds."
According to the report, officials offered a statement with a bit more specifics on their decision, stating Cyrus sometimes, "undertakes acts that go against morals and customs, which are punishable by Dominican law."
Here is an AP report via YouTube, which features wall-to-wall SFW content.
Now for those unfamiliar with Cyrus and her antics, here is a YouTube video taken from her Antwerp concert. Be warned, the video contains some NSFW content. However, the entire video is NSFW if you are working in a Dominican Republic office:
What an artist.
As of this writing, concert officials and Cyrus remained silent on the September concert, so there is no word on ticket refunds or any subsequent process for fans. As reported, the price for the event ranged between $27 and $370.
Now there are no specific references to what caused the ban, but we get some idea with various reports. As the AP reminds, Cyrus concerts include, "twerking and crotch-grabbing."
The Wall Street Journal's Mike Ayers states any Cyrus event might have, "nods to drug use, wearing little clothing and features her riding an inflatable penis at times."
The Independent's Daisy Wyatt writes, "The singer's Bangerz world tour sees her wear a cannabis-patterned leotard and simulate fake oral sex on a Bill Clinton impersonator."
Those in and around the Dominican Republic will sadly have to get their simulated-Clinton-sex-acts fix somewhere else.
As for Cyrus, the singer may miss a concert date, but she has a ridiculous story that will get heavy run on the Internet. When it comes to publicity, you can't buy that kind of fame.
