The floating water park in Cancun has been temporarily closed until July 15 due to protests from environmentalists and locals.

According to Sipse.com, the Float Fun Cancun water park located at Langosta Beach has caused major concerns in the area for people worried the structure would damage the seabed beneath and the surrounding shoreline would be privatized.

The operator of the inflatable park, Wibit Sports, acquired all necessary permits and environmental impact assessments from the government before moving its equipment into the area.

Cancun is already a top tourist hotspot, but the addition of the city's first inflatable water park will entice even more travelers to the destination.

According to Mexico News Daily, the floating water park, dubbed Float Fun Cancun, will be located at Langosta Beach and operated by world-renowned German aquatic playground company Wibit Sports.

The inflatable park opened in Cancun last weekend, marking the company's fourth facility in Mexico, including previous openings in Playa del Carmen, Cozumel and Bucerias. Wibit Sports operates more than 500 parks in 80 countries around the world.

After acquiring permits and environmental impact assessments from Mexico's Secretariat of the Environment and Natural Resources, Float Fun Cancun utilizes semi-portable inflatable platforms that are fastened using a system that minimizes the impact on the sea life below.

Wibit Sports initially submitted plans for 13 inflatable water parks in Cancun, but the local government only approved four. The company will also install parks at Chac Mool beach and Plaza Forum, as well as in Playa del Carmen and Tulum.
