An iconic ship used in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films dramatically sunk off the coast of St. Lucia on May 24 as it sailed for repair.
Appearing as several ships in the Disney series, the Brig Unicorn, which was first built in 1948, survived pirates and sea monsters, but ironically could not withstand a quick journey, The Mirror reports.
Ten crew members aboard the ship had to be rescued by the coast guard after it started to buckle in choppy waters. Thankfully, no one was injured.
The Brig Unicorn served as The Henrietta in "The Curse of the Black Pearl" and as The Terrashaw in "Dead Man's Chest."
The ship had spent most of it's off-air time serving as a restaurant and bar while docked in Rodney Bay, St. Lucia -- it was also a popular local tourist attraction.
Along with its role in "Pirates of the Caribbean," the Brig Unicorn also rose to stardom in 1970s TV series, "Roots."
It's unclear what exactly caused the ship to sink, but we think it's safe to say vengeful pirating activity was not the culprit.
"Pirates of the Caribbean" returns to the big screen in 2016 starring Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow.
