SeaWorld Entertainment announced a partnership extension Thursday with Sesame Workshop that will include the development of an additional Sesame Place theme park.
SeaWorld and Sesame Workshop have been working together for 37 years, and plans are in place for a second Sesame Place theme park to open no later than mid-2021 in a U.S. location to be determined.
Following the opening of the second Sesame Place, SeaWorld will have the option to build additional Sesame Place theme parks. The original Sesame Place theme park is located in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, and is based off the educational program Sesame Street.
The partnership extension also allows Sesame Street characters to continue appearing at the themed lands inside the company's two Busch Gardens theme parks and SeaWorld theme parks in San Diego and San Antonio.
"We know that the magic of theme parks gives families a unique and powerful way to experience and delight in the Sesame Street characters," Sesame Workshop CEO Jeffrey D. Dunn said in a statement. "Building more Sesame Place theme parks will enable us to connect with even more families and provide funding that supports our nonprofit mission."

A new Sesame Street land will also be built in SeaWorld Orlando by fall 2022. The new license agreement extends the partnership between SeaWorld Entertainment and Sesame Workshop through December 2031.
The Sesame Place theme park includes a variety of family rides, water slides, live character shows, a daily parade and seasonal events. The park's focus is to bring the educational world of Sesame Street to life for visitors.
