In
an effort to curb what it says is unruly behavior, at least a pair of parks
under the Six Flags theme banner have instituted a new chaperone policy.
At
Six Flags Fiesta Texas, guests cannot enter the seasonal Fright
Fest attraction if they are 15 or younger, unless accompanied by an adult 21 and over.
The
same holds true for the entire park at
Great Adventure in New Jersey.
The
policy is in effect from 5 p.m. until the parks close. The chaperone must
present valid government identification proving he or she is at least 21.
Chaperones
can be responsible for up to 10 youngsters. They must be with the group for the
entire visit. Youngsters who are found without adult supervision will be asked
to leave.
"The
safety of our guests and associates has always been our top priority," Six
Flags Fiesta Texas wrote in a Facebook post. "We're dedicated to keeping
our park a place where thrill-seekers can enjoy fun and immersive
experiences."
The
policy at both parks goes into effect on Saturday, September 7.
According
to the Great Adventure website the policy was enacted due to "increasing
incidents of unruly and inappropriate behavior across our industry and at other
major entertainment venues." Some guests could be asked to provide
identification proving they are above 15.
The
Chaperone Policy will apply to all ticketholders at Six Flags.
It
is not known if the policy is spreading to other parks,
which are undergoing a massive investment.
