After the tragic events in Las Vegas during October, the hashtag #VegasStrong is all over the city.

One of the best ways for the average person to continue supporting the city is to keep traveling to the desert oasis. Here we look at what is new in Las Vegas for the end of this year and the start of 2018:

HOTELS

A New Orbit

To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Planet Hollywood unveiled a complete room remodel. The four-star property offers a variety of "ultrahip" rooms that feature modern décor and edgy artwork. I recently stayed in a 430-square foot king room that had a view of the Strip and was pleasantly very quiet for Las Vegas.

The mid-strip location makes it easy to walk or take an inexpensive Lyft ride to other properties on Las Vegas Blvd.

Hail Caesar

Caesars Palace just completed a $100 million renovation of its largest tower, the Palace Tower, housing 1,181 rooms and suites.

The crown jewel is the 29th floor, which features 10 new villas that each boast more than $1 million in furnishings and décor. The villas range in size from 2,750-4,085 square feet. Standard rooms were done in cool greys with royal blue and champagne gold accents.

Hitting a Birdie

The iconic Flamingo hotel is undergoing a $90 million renovation of 1,270 rooms, with the first new ones opening in November 2017, and the full 1,270 rooms finished by mid-2018. The design is expected to combine modern details with retro-chic elements that pay homage to the hotel's history.

The Suite Life

What was once reserved solely as a perk for whales can now be had by anyone, with the launch of 2,000 exclusive suites and villas offered by Caesars Entertainment. Travelers who want to live like a high roller can enjoy the luxe accommodations, plus add-ons like limo transportation and 24-hour butler service.

ENTERTAINMENT

Step Right Up

Who doesn't love a circus? The new Circus 1903 at Paris Las Vegas takes guests back to the golden age of the circus with a new twist: puppets. They take the place of real elephants and interact with the other acts that include strongmen, acrobats, contortionists and more circus favorites.

Golden Boys

How is it that a city all about entertainment has never had a major league sports team? That finally was remedied in October when the Golden Knights NHL squad took to the ice for the first time at T Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Visitors can now add sporting events to their entertainment schedule in Sin City.

Strip Steak

Also opening in the new Park MGM is Bavette's, a renowned Chicago steakhouse making its Las Vegas debut in October 2017. The chophouse will feature steakhouse staples prepared with a French twist.

Tangy Eats

China Tang, the first U.S. expansion for Hong Kong-based Kai Sun Dining Group is slated to open at the MGM Grand in February 2018. The gourmet Cantonese menu will also highlight provincial influences from Shanghai, Sichuan and Beijing. Expect a fancy dining room and elevated Asian dishes.
