Ever wanted to jump in the pages of your favorite fairytale? To visit the quaint homes that have shaped the happily-ever-after destinies of Snow White or Belle? Whether they take us back to our childhood or send us on a mythical journey far away from reality, the quirky elements of each of these five fairytale residences prove that the tale doesn't have to end on the last page of the book.
Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA: Hansel House

Looking to scroll through the pages of your favorite fairy tale? Then you'll definitely want to pay the picturesque town of Carmel-by-the-Sea a visit. The Californian destination has become a preferred spot charmed by Hugh Comstock's collection of quaint cottages.
One which comes to mind is the Hansel House, formerly known as the Doll House and justifiably so. The 244 square foot cottage emulates the fable with hand whittled trimmings, pine needles and plaster textures, a stone chimney as well as redwood walls. The house, which was designed by Comstock and his wife Mayotta, was initially created to house her large collection of dolls. Due to its charming architecture it has become one of Carmel's most popular attractions that is constantly swarmed by tourists intrigued by its whimsical presence.
Mexico City, Mexico: Nautilus House
Living in a shell may not be as bad as it sounds, especially if you are confined to Mexico City's Nautilus House. The shell-shaped residence was constructed in 2006 by a renowned Mexican architect after its owners wanted their house to be remodeled to incorporate natural elements.
The home which now features winding curves, colorful stained-glass windows that cast a rainbow shadow, bowl-shaped rooms as well as a domed roof, even makes the most stylish mansion appear quite ordinary because of its eccentric appearance. Plus not many houses have the power to make you feel like your snuggling like a snail in a giant shell.
Versailles, France: the Queen's Hamlet
When Marie Antoinette needed a break from her queenly duties she retreated to the Queen's Hamlet, also known as the Hameau de la Reine, where her lady friends also followed suit. Built during 1783, the astounding cottage is a breathtaking beauty, surrounded by lush pastures and a sparkling lake that reflects the historic splendor of this rural paradise.
Inside, much of the queen's unique touches are still in place, including the huge windows letting in the French air and rustic surroundings of the historic chateau. If you listen closely you may hear the faint chatter of Marie Antoinette and her girlfriends and the secrets they once shared with one another. Hameau de la Reine will always be a place that represents the grace, impeccable sophistication and the spirit the queen admirably possessed.
Martha's Vineyard, MA: The Pink House
This just might be one of the most adorable houses on the planet if you're a fan of pink. But there's no doubt that the Pink House in Martha's Vineyard also catches the eyes of onlookers not fond of its bright hue. In fact, the house gets the most attention by shutterbugs out of all of the island's cute gingerbread houses.
The candy-coated residence is one of the several colorful gingerbread cottages famously decorating Oaks Bluff. Neatly lined side-by-side to one another, you may actually think a family of gingerbread men reside here. However, the carnation-colored house, which is also fashioned with different shades of pink embellishments, is a must see especially if you ever wanted to live in Barbie's Dream House.
Chester County, PA: The Hobbit House
The envy of all Bilbo Baggins fans, the Hobbit House located in Chester County, PA opens up to a world inspired by the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Its façade graciously greets visitors with an impressive stone face with a stone chimney to match. A small circular door interestingly carved into the home opens up to a décor adorned with low ceilings and perfect wood furnishings.
The cottage, which noticeably stands out because of its unique architecture, was the mastermind of a local family who wanted their home to reflect their love of fantasy. In return, this prompted the architect to create an extraordinary place that would be as timeless as it is unimaginable, yet unpersuaded by the interpretations of Hollywood.
