In June of this year, American Express announced it would eventually become the sole issuer of co-branded Hilton credit cards.

Since then, consumers have been patiently waiting to hear what would happen to their co-branded Hilton credit cards through Citi and what new cards might come down the pipeline.

The wait is over: If you have a co-branded Hilton credit card with Citi, you will get a new comparable Hilton card from American Express. Amex has also announced the addition of a few new Hilton credit cards that will launch in January of next year.

So, here's what will happen first.

If you have the Citi Hilton Honors Reserve card, you can expect your card to be replaced with the American Express Hilton Ascend card with a $94 annual fee. If you have the no-fee Hilton credit card from Citi, you'll get a no-fee American Express Hilton card in the mail.

It's also important to note that, starting December 13, 2017, Citi points will no longer be transferable to Hilton, per Doctor of Credit.

Once the full transition is made, you'll be able to sign up for the following co-branded Hilton cards with American Express:

Hilton Honors American Express Card (no annual fee)

This card is the same as it was before, but with no foreign transaction fees. You also get 7x points on Hilton purchases, 5x points at U.S. supermarkets, U.S. restaurants and U.S. gas stations, and 3x points on all other purchases.

Hilton Honors American Express Ascend Card

This card replaces the Hilton Surpass card and comes with a $95 annual fee, 10 free Priority Pass lounge passes, Hilton Honors gold status, no foreign transaction fees and one free weekend Hilton night after you spend $15,000 on the card within a calendar year.

You also earn 12x points on Hilton purchases, 6x points at U.S. supermarkets, U.S. restaurants and U.S. gas stations and 3x points on all other purchases.

Hilton Honors American Express Business Card

Last but not least, American Express is finally offering a business card for Hilton lovers. This card will come with a $95 annual fee along with perks such as Hilton Honors Gold status; a free weekend night after you use your card for $15,000 in purchases in one year and a second weekend night after you spend $60,000; no foreign transaction fees and 10 Priority Pass lounge passes.

You'll also earn 12X points on Hilton purchases, 6x points on airfare booked with airlines and through AmexTravel.com along with U.S. gas stations, U.S. wireless phone services, U.S. shipping, car rentals and U.S. restaurants, and 3x points on all other purchases.
